What is Raspberry Pi?

Raspberry Pi is a single-board computer similar to any desktop or laptop computer. It is similar to an Arduino with the exception that a Raspberry Pi usually runs a complete operating system (in most cases Rasbian which is a type of Linux operating system).

A Raspbeery Pi is a perfect device to use with TrackMyRide. What makes a Raspberry Pi and TrackMyRide a perfect combination is the low-overhead and low-bandwidth required for the devices to communicate.

While Raspberry Pi devices have many more resourses than Arduino devices they still are quite limited when compared to a standard desktop or laptop computer.

If you are using a Raspberry Pi to send position information to our servers you only need to do the following:

Connect a GPS to the computer (usually via USB)
Connect to the Internet
Send position data to our servers using one of the following protocols
- HTTP
- MQTT
- UDP

In the near future the developers at TrackMyRide will be relasing a Raspberry Pi version of the tracker. Sign up for our beta testers program to be notified when this system is ready.
